Bug Out Bag: 10 Survival Items You Need To Pack Now
We can never predict what’s going to happen that’s why it is such an advantage to have the necessary survival items at our disposal. Being prepared is our best defense in a survival situation. But unintentionally, we fail to include some items in our bug out bag or apparently, some of us don’t recognize its significance. And because of that, I listed some of the things you might forget including in your bug out bag.
1. Antibiotics
Antibiotics should always be included in your first aid kit and having it is a must in your medical arsenals. Studies show it can treat various kinds of infections such as an open wound, urinary tract, and burn infections. Amoxicillin, Ciprofloxacin, and Cephalexin are some of the common antibiotics you should include in your survival pack.
2. Backpack Rain Cover
Not all backpacks are totally waterproof. A rain cover will be very useful because of the weather, as we know it, is unpredictable. Keeping your bag dry is important for the protection of your gears and other essentials inside your bug out bag.
3. Bandanas
Bandanas are very useful. It can be used as a sling, a tourniquet, a rope, or a mask. This is just to name a few from the numerous ways a bandana can provide. This piece of cloth is more than just a fashion accessory —it can be a life saver.
4. Compact Survival Fishing Kit
Most of the preppers I know include this piece of tin in their bug out bag. They all recognize the utility of this compact fishing kit. A useful storage where they can put assorted items that may come handy in a survival situation.
5. Poncho Liner Blanket
The poncho liner blanket does not only provide comfort and warmth but also it can be used as a shelter. American soldiers have proven its advantage and always carry it in their missions to keep them dry. So when you pack your bug out bag, never forget to include a “woobie”.
6. Glow Sticks
In an event of a survival situation and your flashlights run out of batteries, these glow sticks will illuminate the dark. It’s lightweight, inexpensive, can provide you hours of lighting, waterproof, and most of all it is safe. These glow sticks don’t just light up and add attraction to a party, but it can also light your path to safety.
7. LifeStraw
We can sweat profusely under the heat of the scorching sun and excessive loss of bodily fluids can obviously result in dehydration. When you run out of bottled drinkable water in your pack you need to look for other sources, this awesome and game-changing invention comes into play. LifeStraw is an award-winning, internationally recognized water filter ideal for camping, hiking, and survival. This water filter can remove a jaw-dropping 99.99 percent of water-borne bacteria!
8. Binoculars
People may have an opinion about carrying binoculars and including it in a bug out bag is just a waste of good space. But I have to disagree. In my experience as an outdoorsman, binoculars are essential not only in hunting but also in a survival situation. When you’re lost in the vast wilderness, a good pair of compact binoculars is important in checking out trails that will lead you back on the right track.
9. Pepper Spray
Safety and security are what matters, especially in a survival situation. It’s best if you carry a can of pepper spray. In the event of SHTF or when we encounter people with harmful intentions towards us, this self-defense weapon will surely come convenient. Yes, it may be less lethal than guns but it can stun any perpetrator and gives you time to call for help.
10. Sharpening Kit
Having a sharp knife is important in camping, hunting and in survival situations. So to keep it sharp and ready to cut, you need to carry a sharpening kit in your bug out bag. A dull knife is unreliable like paper shoes in a stormy weather.

Being prepared is always advantageous. Our favorite athletes prepare for every game they participate in. Musicians practice the songs they’re going to play before every show. Soldiers plan their every move before they head out to the battlefield. Successful people do it all the time. So you see, it is necessary to be prepared for everything we do if we want to succeed or come out alive and safe from a survival situation. Again, this list is just a reminder or a bunch of suggestions for new preppers. It is still up to you what you want to include in your bug out bag.
