The 10-meter air rifle shooting event is one of the few shooting sports events in the Olympic Games. Virginia “Ginny” Thrasher, one of the United States’ representatives was able to secure a gold medal for her country. Furthermore, she outranks two Chinese competitors in the said event, including Olympic Record Holder Du Li. See what lead Ginny through winning a gold in the Rio Olympics 2016.
Virginia Ginny Thrasher is an American teenager and member of the US women’s air rifle shooting team. She took her first shot when her father brought her along to hunt five years ago and fell in love with the sport. As a result, she now won her first gold medal.
Furthermore, Thrasher was able to set an Olympic world record on the 10m women’s air rifle shooting event. She also got the first gold medal for the US Olympic team.
Ginny says the good thing about the sport is that as long as you get to the finals, your previous scores won’t matter allowing you to focus more on what’s ahead. Consequently, she was able to secure a gold for the country.
An athlete’s state of mind, as Ginny’s coach said in an interview, can dictate the effects of the team’s training. Hard work and dedication as well as a steady mind will win the gold for any athlete. But most of all, the 2016 Brazil Olympics have just begun and there are more sports events to look forward to.
